In the Christian life, there are simply times when I don't seem to have any reason to wake up at all. The daily struggles and pains of life resounds more loudly very early in the morning.
But the Heidelberg Catechism, one of the most famous of all protestant creeds gives us a systematic but clear exposition of Christian doctrine in question form. It is divided into 3 sections: GUILT, GRACE and GRATITUDE.
So when I find no reason to do anything in a day, when my heart is prone to wander as the famous hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" says, I am reminded to speak to myself 3 things that I should never forget.
1. Wake up each day aware of the reality of your Guilt.
2. Wake up each day amazed at the reminder of God's Grace.
3. Wake up each day alive with the response of Gratitude.
Fellow slumberers, let us wake up in the light of greater realities of what God has already done and is still doing in our lives each day.
